Daon also offers a streamlined, offline authentication tool for situations in which phone connections are unavailable, or in which the more robust IdentityX solution is unnecessary.
Based on the open OATH standard, IdentityX Lite displays an authentication number on the mobile phone which must be entered on the Service Provider’s application. This number changes over time, with both the device and the Service Provider application being aware of what this number should be based on shared secrets. The user simply calls up the IdentityX Lite application, which displays a set of characters to type into the Service Provider’s website / keypad. This is similar to solutions that require a separate hardware device to display changing series of numbers. In addition to abolishing the need for additional pieces of hardware, IdentityX Lite has the added benefit of connectivity with the IdentityX Lite Server, even if this connection is only periodically made. For its intended purpose, IdentityX Lite does not require a connection to function; however, occasional communications made when a connection happens to be available allows IdentityX Lite to fine-tune its synchronization and update configuration profile settings, as desired.
